The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) has hosted its annual End of Year event with a spectacular gathering at Broadmeadows Town Hall. The 10 November 2025 event brought together more than 500 community leaders, partners and multicultural Victorians for an evening of cultural celebration, reflection and connection.

The event featured a dynamic program of entertainment and dialogue, showcasing the richness of Victoria’s multicultural communities. The entertainment included a special Sri Lankan dance performance by Shashila Dance Troupe, and lively Italian entertainment by Segmento, who encouraged guests to join a traditional tarantella dance.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Ingrid Stitt MP, delivered the keynote address. Minister Stitt reaffirmed the Victorian Government’s commitment to supporting multicultural communities and strengthening social cohesion across Victoria.

MC Chairperson, Vivienne Nguyen AM, delivered a stirring speech that acknowledged the resilience and achievements of Victoria’s diverse communities, this past year.

VMC Director, Kashif Bouns, presented an overview of the 2024-25 VMC work program, highlighting the strategic priorities, key achievements and partnerships that are strengthening multiculturalism across the state.

Guiding the program for the evening was MC and former Mayor of Hume City Council, Joseph Haweil. Dr Chris Mallika Bhadra, VMC Regional Advisory Council member, moderated a powerful panel discussion, featuring respected community leaders: Dorcas Maphakela, Dalal Samaan, and Dr Bruce Wong.

The leaders discussed the role of organisations, such as the VMC, in amplifying multicultural voices – and offered practical ways for individuals and communities to contribute to a stronger, more inclusive Victoria.

Guests also enjoyed opportunities for connection and conversation over locally sourced catering, reflecting the ongoing VMC commitment to inclusion and community-led engagement.
