The violent and unprovoked attacks on two Muslim women, at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s north, are abhorrent and unacceptable.
Our thoughts are with the women, families and communities affected.
The Victorian Multicultural Commission supports laws to stamp out violence and racism.
All Victorians deserve to feel safe, and to be safe, whoever they are and wherever they are – on our streets, at places of worship and in public spaces.
Compassion and generosity define Victoria’s diverse communities; we see that every day, in so many ways. Let us draw now on those virtues to de-escalate tensions and build a safe and inclusive Victoria.
