The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) is proud to share its 2024-25 Annual Report, tabled in State Parliament yesterday showcasing a year of significant achievements, challenges and milestones.

The report outlines extensive VMC engagement with communities across the state, made possible by the dedication of VMC Commissioners, staff, partners and volunteers.

The year presented challenges to fostering a thriving multicultural Victoria, as global conflicts directly impacted local communities.

Despite these challenges, the VMC continued in its role as a leading advocate for multicultural Victoria, fostering connection, amplifying diverse voices, and driving community participation at record levels.

Through collaboration with government, community groups and multicultural forums, the VMC ensured that Victoria’s diverse communities were heard – and able to inform policies and programs.

Annual Report highlights include:

  • The work of our 12 VMC Commissioners, who collectively attended more than 600 events this year, reflecting the depth of expertise and commitment they brought to their roles.
  • A reimagined Cultural Diversity Week (CDW) in March – which, for the first time, was delivered as a standalone initiative. Central to this, the inaugural Victorian Multicultural Festival, delivered in partnership with Grazeland (Spotswood), attracted nearly 10,000 attendees and generated 50,000 media interactions.
  • Reflections on signature events such as the Multicultural Film Festival, Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence and Premier’s Multicultural Gala Dinner, which celebrated the contributions and leadership of Victoria’s multicultural communities.
  • The 2025 VMC Regional Advisory Forum, which brought together RAC members from across Victoria to discuss pressing community issues – from mental health to racism. Insights from the forum informed a strategic advocacy report, ensuring the inclusion and influence of diverse regional voices on statewide policies and programs.

There have also been two significant developments in the months since the end of our reported 2024–25 activity.

In September 2025, the VMC bid farewell to 9 of our 12 Commissioners, whose terms expired. We wish them well and thank them sincerely for their immense and lasting contributions to multicultural Victoria.

Also in September 2025, the Victorian Government announced its response to Victoria’s Multicultural Review.

The review, led by respected multicultural leader George Lekakis AO, made 41 recommendations on how government can strengthen systems, organisations and policies to better support multicultural and multifaith communities.

The VMC will continue to work with the government and department as any structural changes are planned and embedded.

Meanwhile, the VMC continues in its mission to support and strengthen multicultural communities.

We extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to our Commissioners, staff, sponsors, volunteers and community partners, who work with us tirelessly to realise these ambitions.
