This competition - the first of its kind - is open to people in Victoria with a multicultural background. Entrant’s photographs will form a visual record of a unique time in Victoria and increase the representation of multicultural Victorians in government publications.
Shortlisted entries will be showcased in an exhibition of 24 artworks to take place in June 2022 at the Immigration Museum. Winning entries will be announced at the launch of the exhibition, where prizes will be awarded to the collective amount of $9,000.
Prizes will be granted across six award categories: the Minister’s Choice, People’s Choice, Days of Significance and Cultural Celebrations, Portraiture, Daily Life and Family, and Community Resilience.

Quotes attributable to Victorian Multicultural Commission Chairperson Vivienne Nguyen AM
“We are excited to view all submissions for the competition, and expand our showcase of talented multicultural artists in Victoria.”
“Photography is a powerful medium of expression to connect audiences to unique perspectives. A way to capture those fleeting moments that communities are built from. The social events. The meals. The hard times and the support to get past them. Those fleeting glances between loved ones, be they in sadness, humour or joy.”
“This competition seeks to capture and recognise the diverse lived experiences of multicultural communities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
