No matter where you were born or how old you are, our basic human rights are the same.
Today, we support International Human Rights and join people and communities across multicultural Australia and the world in recognising and celebrating the rights of all people.
As we reflect on our shared humanity, we also pledge a commitment to maintaining and improving human rights for Victorians through our work.
This year’s theme aims to empower young people to participate in public life and to stand up for human rights.
We believe the role of young people in shaping our future cannot be underestimated.
Young people can influence decision-making that can change the political, economic and social landscape of our society. They also have the power to change the future on a global scale.
Here in Victoria, young people of all backgrounds have a significant role to play in building and maintaining social harmony between cultures, communities and generations.
Young people can navigate the way forward to ensure our state continues to be a world leader in multiculturalism and the welcoming and inclusive place we all enjoy.
Today, we call on young Victorians to stand up for their rights in our diverse state. And we ask all Victorians to give young people opportunities to participate and contribute and enable their voices to be heard.
As the leaders of tomorrow, young people hold our future in their hands, so let's support them in every way we can.
