Happy Lunar New Year, Year of the Ox
Chúc Mừng Năm Mới TET Tân Sửu
On behalf of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, I extend my best wishes to each and every Victorian who celebrates Lunar New Year.
With New Year’s Eve upcoming on Thursday evening and the welcoming of the first day of the New Year on Friday – I look forward to celebrating the special occasion with you.
Lunar New Year, or TET for me, is a time to pause and reflect on the past year, to remember those who went before me, to the ancestors and plan for the year ahead.
On reflection, I thank you for the hard work and relentless efforts you have done to support those in need throughout the pandemic. I celebrate with you the result of that hard work, with many people supported who would otherwise have had a much more difficult time. I express my gratitude to you for supporting the public health directions that have contained the spread of this insidious coronavirus. While it has been incredibly difficult, we are in a better place relative to almost everywhere else in the world.
I look forward to working with you in ensuring the vaccine rollout can reach everyone, regardless of visa status, cultural background, or how long you have been here. I look forward to working with you in ensuring we all have the equality of opportunity to be the very best that we can be – as an individual, as a family, as a community and as a society.
To the Vietnamese community who I have had the privilege to serve for many years, let’s continue to support the younger generations embrace and be proud of their Vietnamese culture while at the same time embracing their Australian identity and contributing to our incredible multicultural society in ways that can bring social, cultural and economic benefits for all.
One very meaningful way of how we can reflect on and capture our incredible journey to date as well as highlight our contributions both within the Vietnamese community and to the broader Australian community is the Vietnamese Museum Australia project - A project that requires all of our support to make real.
Happy New Year - Chúc Mừng Năm Mới
